Allie Mixon

Allie Mixon has worked in special education the past 10 years as both a teacher and administrator. She received her Bachelors degree in Special Education from the University of Illinois, a Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism from the University of Missouri and her Director of Special Education endorsement from Northern Illinois University. Allie began her career as a special education teacher for students with low incidence disabilities, focusing on life skills and functional academics. Allie developed a deep passion for collaborating with families, advocating for student needs, and increasing inclusive educational opportunities for all students.

Allie began working in administration to shape educational systems, expand her outreach and connect with more students and families. Allie worked as a special education coordinator and an assistant director in a therapeutic day school and public schools. Allie’s experience has allowed her to work with families from diverse backgrounds and cultures, ensuring all students have access to equitable learning opportunities. Allie also has been able to coach and mentor teachers and related service staff on best practices, new curriculum, data collection, behavior management strategies, and developing comprehensive IEP’s.
